Abstract

The chemical processing of the mineralized gibbsite ore material of Um Bogma formation occurring at Abu Zeneima area of Sinai has been studied for the recovery of its metal values .A technological sample assaying 26.43% Al2O3 , 0.43% Zn, 0.49% Rare earth (REEs) and 500ppm U has thus been subjected to several bioleaching experiments to avoid excessive acid consumption. In these experiments, the autotrophic bacteria Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans was used and the relevant leaching conditions were optimized. From properly prepared pregnant sulfate leach liquor, the leached metal values were recovered in the form of marketable products.
